Searching for Virginia's Most Outstanding Reading Teacher

Each Reading Council in the state of Virginia is asked to select its "Most Outstanding Reading Teacher" for the most distinctive award presented by The Virginia State Reading Association--the distinguished 2008 Ofie T. Rubin Reading Teacher. According to specified procedures, the candidate's name will be forwarded to the Reading Teacher of the Year Selection Committee, who in turn will determine the State Winner.

During the Annual Banquet in March at the VSRA Conference in Richmond, Virginia, the winning VSRA Reading Teacher of the Year will receive a special certificate from VSRA and a cash award made possible from a grant given by the Life of Virginia Insurance Company. Also during this time, special recognition will be given to all candidates whose names were submitted by participating local Reading Councils.

At a special session at the VSRA Conference, the winning candidate and the other nominees will have the opportunity to present a reading activity that has helped children. These children are the major factor that helped to select each candidate as the "Most Outstanding Reading Teacher" in each local Reading Council, thereby resulting in Virginia's most outstanding Reading Teacher.

To further recognize the 2008 Ofie T. Rubin Reading Teacher of the Year state winner and local winning candidates, information will be publicized in the VSRA Newsletter, local Reading Council newsletters, and other media sources selected by Reading Councils.

The Reading Teacher of the Year Committee is asking that you respond by selecting the "Most Outstanding Reading Teacher" from your local Reading Council.
